This is an opportunity for talented researchers in condensed matter theory  
to study the physical properties and the interplay between magnetism/quantum  
orders and optics/electronics in novel two-dimensional materials, their  
heterostructures, and devices based on them. The work will be based at the  
Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Manchester, a world-
class scientific institution with a broad scope of research. The study of  
the physics of 2D materials is amongst the research beacons of the  
University of Manchester and offers the opportunity for a close  
collaboration with world-leading experimental groups.  

We seek theorists with an active interest and excellent track record of  
publications in the physics of low-dimensional materials and/or in strongly-
correlated quantum systems and capable of maintaining collaborations with  
experimental groups. Skills in field/kinetic-theory or ab-initio methods  
applied to condensed matter problems will be equally welcomed. Funding is  
provided by a Leverhulme Trust Standard Grant. The two posts are available  
from 1 September 2020 for various periods ranging from 12 to 36 months.
